Former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez will square off with Jeremy Stephens on Sept. 9 at Rogers Place. Melendez's most recent bout was a unanimous decision loss to Edson Barboza at UFC on FOX 20 in Chicago last July. A pairing of featherweights who are looking to shake off losing steaks has been added to UFC 215 in Edmonton. Stephens (25-14), meanwhile, is also trying to get back on the winning track. The 35-year-old Melendez hasn't been particularly active recently, as his four-losses-in-five-fights stretch dates back to April 2013.

Former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez (22-6 MMA, 1-4 UFC) is set to take on Jeremy Stephens (25-14 MMA, 12-13 UFC) in a 145-pound bout at UFC 215. UFC 215 takes place Sept. 9 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn't been finalized. At UFC 188 in June 2015, he dropped a split decision to former Bellator champ and eventual UFC champ Eddie Alvarez. Melendez returns to face Stephens at UFC 215
Gilbert Melendez is returning to the Octagon for the first time in more than a year to face Jeremy Stephens in a featherweight bout at UFC 215 in Edmonton. A 25-fight veteran of the UFC, Stephens (25-14) has lost consecutive bouts and five of his last seven. UFC 215 is schedule for Sept. 9 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alta. Stephens has been awarded Knockout of the Night and Fight of the Night three times each. The former UFC lightweight contender has been on the sidelines since July 2016 after a third consecutive loss at the hands of Edson Barboza.
