Ex-Northwestern basketball player sues NCAA, Wildcats over 'destructive' transfer rule
Northwestern said it will "vigorously" fight a federal antitrust lawsuit initiated by a former player who wants to abolish the NCAA's rule requiring transfers to sit for a year.Johnnie Vassar's class-action lawsuit, filed Monday, claims that school officials forced him to surrender his scholarship via misleading and intimidating tactics.Once he left the program, he was subjected to the NCAA's "destructive" rules that require transfers to sit for a year before they're eligible at their next schools, the lawsuit claims.

Former Northwestern basketball player alleges school tried to force him off the team
A former Northwestern University basketball player has sued the school and the NCAA alleging that NU officials used intimidation tactics to try to force him off the team to free up a scholarship spot and that college athletics transfer rules violate federal antitrust laws.In the federal antitrust lawsuit filed yesterday (read the full complaint below), former NU guard Johnnie Vassar laid out a series of accusations against the school including that officials had verbally harassed him and falsified records of misconduct in an effort to remove his athletic scholarship and get him to transfer schools.Vassar last year announced his intention on Twitter to leave the program after the 2014-15 season and transfer to get more playing time.
